About Scott Weed – The NailHunter

Hi, I’m Scott Weed, better known in the world of Date Nails as The NailHunter. I’ve been collecting and researching Date Nails for decades, and along the way, I’ve met some of the best folks you could ever hope to swap stories (and the occasional rusty nail) with.

I started with a 2.0 Megapixel Camera and Notepad to create NailHunter.com as a central archive for as much Date Nail information as possible—because let’s face it, the number of collectors is shrinking, and we need to make sure this knowledge sticks around (kind of like a stubborn nail in an old utility pole). I’ve even arranged for the site to be maintained after my demise—hopefully, not anytime soon, but if there ever is a date nail in my coffin, at least it’ll be well-documented.

Many of the old newsletters, articles, and collector insights are scattered across decades of paper publications. I’m in the process of digitizing these gems as I find them so future generations don’t have to squint at yellowed pages or dig through attics to find them.

If you have any newsletters, articles, or resources, I’d love to add them to the archive. And if anyone has a copy of Kenneth B. Shaw’s "And Now It’s Nail Time" that I could borrow, scan, and return, please let me know!

I already have permission from the authors of the books and articles currently posted as PDFs, but if you’re an author and haven’t heard from me yet—or if you’d like to give permission to share your work—drop me a line. Let’s preserve the history of Date Nails together!

Check out the resources on NailHunter.com, and if you’re out there hunting, stay safe, use the right tools, and always get permission before pulling those old beauties from a pole!

Always be aware: Some tags/nails are still being used by utility companies and should not be removed.
